NOVOTECH Aerospace Advanced Technology exhibits two Seagull 207 (landing gear and float) models at AERO 2023 in Friedrichshafen.
With over 670 exhibitors from all segments of General Aviation, the focus of the trade show this year is on the recovery after the global Corona pandemic as well as the transformation of aviation towards more sustainability.
SEAGULL has been designed as a flexible and adaptable flying platform for many needs and….dreams, a breakthrough with respect to the current transportation systems, starting with Seagull 207 a high performing two seats, ultralight amphibian aircraft, easy and economical, operating from any infrastructure in complete autonomy.
Seagull 207 is a new generation ultra-light seaplane featured by massive use of composites and low environmental impact, for civil and military applications. It is capable of carrying out air and maritime movements of people and goods in full autonomy. It is featured by an automated and full electric folding wing system (Patent n. 102017000131163 deposit November the 16th, 2017 – “Mechanisms for transforming an ultra-light aircraft into a sailing and motor-powered vessel”) enabling the wing retraction for mooring in a common berth.
The Seagull 207 is a 2 seats, braced wing and single engine (pushing propeller) amphibian aircraft having an innovative trimaran configuration and two optional tails: the V-Tail and T-Tail, depend of pilot chose and adaptability to control. Fuselage, tail boom, empennage, sponsons, flaps and ailerons structures are made of composite materials, whereas the wing is made of light alloy.
The Seagull 207 with V-Tail, is an aircraft design, incorporating two slanted tail surfaces, which act as both horizontal and vertical stabilizers; each one has a moveable flight control surface referred to a rudder-elevator. These rudder-elevators perform the combined functions of both a rudder and an elevator. The main and nose landing gears are retractable by a traction strut mechanism connected to electrical linear actuators.
The Seagull 207, two-seats aircraft, is also based on a modularity concept, which enable the availability of up to 6 different versions given by the combination of 3 engine propulsion options (electric, hybrid electric, endothermic) with folding or fixed wing. This represents in fact a new mobility system conceived to promote communication between human beings and break down the barriers currently present in the case of public and / or private transport of people and goods.
The Seagull 407 e-STOL is another member of the SEAGULL platform, starting from the basic two-seat passenger version, aims to conceive and validate an architecture that will allow the greatest “commonality” of all critical sections of the aircraft and will therefore make it producible with very low costs regardless of the final configurations: two-seater or 4-seater, whether for passenger transport or cargo. This project started in January 2022 and the first prototype is expected by December 2024.
Flight tests already performed – for both the landing gear and float models- gave excellent results on take-off performance, maneuverability, landing and stall behavior both in terms of low speed performance and characteristics.
Moreover, in the view to offer cutting-edge solution, specifically in the experimentation of new forms of Urban Air Mobility (UAM), Novotech , with a consortium of other 4 companies, is developing a hybrid powered e_VTOL version of the SEAGULL platform: the Seagull 107 e_VTOL
Research of novel and competitive solutions: these are the key factors that place, at a European level, Novotech among the SMEs that want to enter in the international Urban Air Mobility market.
SEAGULL platform advantages:
- Low cost air-maritime mobility system;
- Hybrid electric, Full elecric or endothermal motorization;
- Optional automatic folding wing system;
- Extensive use of advanced composite materials (fuselage, movable surfaces, tail);
- Capability to operate from the sea and not only from lakes or calm water conditions thanks to its trimaran hull configuration;
- Potential capability to upgrade the aircraft platform for Vertical Take off and Landing operations (Urban Air Mobility).
